DCS Engineering
Programmable logic and distributed control engineered, documented and commissioned to run for years.

PLC & DCS Engineering, delivered with method.
PLC and DCS engineering from specification to commissioning: logic development, panel design, migration of obsolete controllers and modification of live systems with minimal disruption.
The controller is where the plant's behaviour is defined. Well-structured logic, clear documentation and a tidy panel make a system that can be understood, maintained and modified by whoever comes next. Poorly structured logic does the opposite — and the cost shows up years later.
WOL engineers programme PLCs for machine and utility control and work on DCS platforms for continuous process control. We also handle the physical side: panel design and build, marshalling, I/O wiring and the site work needed to migrate an old system without an extended outage.

What the crew brings to site.
Each capability is delivered by supervised crews working to written method statements, with hold points agreed before the work begins.
PLC programming
Structured, documented logic for new systems, modifications and expansions.
DCS configuration
Control strategies, graphics and alarm configuration for process control systems.
Control panel engineering
Panel layouts, wiring diagrams, thermal and load checks, build and inspection.
Legacy migration
Planned migration from obsolete controllers with I/O mapping and phased cut-over.
Loop tuning & optimisation
PID tuning and sequence optimisation on live equipment with recorded results.
Documentation & backup
As-built logic, drawings, backups and change records handed over in an organised package.
Where this service applies.
Typical scopes WOL is mobilised for, and the sectors where this discipline is most often called on.
Related sectors
How the work is controlled.
Three principles that shape every scope — so the client can see what will happen, when, and how it will be checked.
Structure and naming conventions
Logic is organised in a consistent way, with tag names and comments that a maintenance technician can follow.
Change under control
Modifications to live systems are planned, backed up, reviewed and tested before they are loaded.
Migration without surprises
Old and new I/O are mapped and verified on the bench, and cut-over is sequenced to fit the plant's outage window.
Controls that travel with the crew.
Safety and quality arrangements apply to every scope. Specific certifications and third-party approvals are stated only where confirmed by WOL.
Permit-led execution
Every intervention starts inside the client's permit system.
Controller backups taken before and after every change
Functional tests witnessed and signed with the client's representative
Panels inspected and tested before dispatch to site
Safety-related logic reviewed separately from process logic
From scope to handover.
The same sequence on every engagement, so clients always know which stage the work is at.
Review
Existing logic, drawings and plant requirements assessed.
Specify
Functional description and I/O list agreed as the basis of design.
Engineer
Logic, graphics and panel drawings developed and reviewed.
Test
Simulation and factory acceptance testing with the client.
Commission
Site installation, loop checks and live functional testing.
Document
As-built package, backups and training delivered.
Common questions about plc & dcs.
Straight answers on how this service is scoped, mobilised and handed over.
Can you modify a system that another company installed?
Usually, yes — provided the programme is accessible and not locked. We review what exists first, take a backup and agree the scope of change before touching anything.
How do you manage a controller replacement on a running plant?
The new system is built and tested off-line, I/O is mapped and verified, and the cut-over is planned around the plant's outage window with a documented roll-back option.
Do you supply the control panels?
Yes. Panels are designed, built, inspected and tested before they reach site. [To be confirmed: in-house workshop or partner panel shop]
